Jean-Luc Ponty "King Kong"
By Alan Stevens, p 31

ONE of the more progressive thinkers in contemporary music is Frank Zappa, leader of the Mothers Of Invention. His somewhat bizarre appearance belies his extraordinary talent as a composer. On this album, five of the six tracks are his work. Ponty, with his fluent jazzy style on violin, and Zappa, the master of "heavy" sounds, would seem to make an odd combination, but their alliance is extremelv productive. In fact, Zappa expresses himself more convincingly through Ponty than he does with his Mothers Of Invention. This is a stimulating and, at times, thought-provoking album – made even more so by the brilliance of George Duke on electric piano.
