The book Phenomen Zappa aims to explore and analyze the different perspectives of a specific cultural phenomenon, which originated in Czechoslovakia around the personality and work of American musician Frank Zappa. It tries to capture the emergence of this phenomenon and the mechanisms of its functioning in a specific socio-political context of socialist Czechoslovakia, but also brings new information about the Zappa's music's resonance in our country, about the creation and operation of the Czech Frank Zappa fanclub or about Zappa's visits to Prague.

The book is divided into two parts: the first offers academic studies that Zappa devoted to different aspects - in terms of the transformation of the cultural phenomenon of language and its translation, semiotics of popular culture or aesthetic perspective. In addition to these analyzes, cost studies attempting to grasp the poetry of Frank Zappa after the musicological and incorporate the artist's work in the contemporary musical contexts. The second part uses the techniques of oral history and constructs Zappa's image in the memories of his Czech fans and recipients.

The book is accompanied by a rich pictorial material: historical photos, documents and drawings.

It is published in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts at University of South Bohemia in the České Budějovice.
