This is the first print of a book, which was "for many years the only book about Beefheart anywhere" (Savoy Books).

Several sources show different details about the author, publication year, size etc. The most correct seems to be Savoy Books. We believe that this compendium was indeed compiled by David Britton based on his collection. The publication year is obviously 1977 (according to the discography).

How many times this book was reprinted is not known. As a minimum in 1980 followed the 2nd edition, in 1982 the 3rd (see below) and later in 2004 the first edition was updated, modified and issued as The Abba to Zappa of Captain Beefheart.

The book has no page numbers and no table of contents. From an unknown source we have here page scans of 66 pages and we hope that in a correct sequence.

This 2nd edition is in A4 size and surprisingly most of the content has changed. Only some pages remained from 1st edition. The illustrations are all dropped, a lot of photos are added and articles selection is mostly new.

Based on discography (last album is Doc At The Radar Station) and Captain Beefheart Electricity site we set the publication year to 1980.

Amazon.com has listed this book even with an ISBN number.

This 2nd edition is available as full hires scan at zappateers (330 MB).

Coincidentallywe discovered the 3rd edition of this book. And as a surprise here is a serious downgrade from 2nd edition. There are 16 pages less. No title and copyright pages. The sequence of pages is a mess. Maybe it is the fault of the scanners because the overall quality of this unknown source scan is poor. But the updated discography shows Ice Cream For Crow and it is indeed a later publication.The pagesize in 3rd edition is smaller, there is no footer what you can see on every 2nd edition page.
