‘The history of pop music needs villains and heroes and a certain degree of contradiction, otherwise you could also solve a Sudoku.’
This book is different from any other history of pop music, a very original and interesting read. Bruckmaier's pop history is a story of black and white music, of a certain type of person, his circumstances, his dreams, his political views and his shortcomings. The story begins in the year 822 in Cordoba.
Frank Zappa is mentioned only twice in the book, and only in passing. Here on this site, the book is included because of the outstanding front cover – by Wilfried Petzi – of the orignal Murmann edition. The book was republished in 2015 by Wilhelm Heyne Verlag with another front cover.
